Walnut Creek, CALIF., December 19, 2016 – Archer Norris announced today that effective December 1, 2016, John L. Kortum, resident in the firm’s Walnut Creek office, will join the partnership. John practices in the field of complex civil litigation, including personal injury and property damage litigation, business litigation, environmental and solid waste law.

In his practice at Archer Norris, John has represented government entities in federal court in matters involving fatal disease and determination of death, a major contractor in matters involving personal injury and property damage arising from freeway construction and commercial construction, contractors in construction injury cases, a major national retailer in connection with claims for computer failure and for asbestos-related disease, solid waste companies in regulatory matters, large developers and property owners in matters involving soil and groundwater contamination in matters brought under CERCLA, RCRA and state law claims. He has handled matters for domestic and international clients arising under California’s Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water & Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. He has also handled cases arising under the Clean Water Act, representing government entities in administrative NPDES permitting matters and representing defendants in federal court in citizens suits brought by environmental groups. His trial experience includes a two month trial to verdict, with a defense verdict for his client. His past work has included complex administrative proceedings reviewing insurance regulations, including judicial review of administrative determinations by the California Supreme Court. He received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A. with honors from University of California, Berkeley.
