Sharon Collier has tried many jury trials to verdict.  Following are just a few examples of her jury verdicts and binding arbitration results:

Personal Injury

  • Product Liability / Food Borne Illness – Successfully obtained a defense verdict in a food borne illness case against Foster Farms.  Plaintiff claimed catastrophic injuries as a result of developing Guillain-Barré Syndrome from a Campylobacter Jejuni bacterial infection she claimed came from eating Foster Farms’ chicken.  Plaintiff claimed approximately $8 million in economic damages and $50 million in general damages.  After a two and a half week jury trial in downtown Los Angeles, the jury found in favor of Foster Farms.
  • Negligence – Successfully obtained a defense jury verdict on a claim that our automobile service center client’s alleged failure to recommend replacement of a worn tire and/or rotate the tires on plaintiff’s vehicle was the cause of his rollover accident that happened when the tire lost its tread.
  • Motor Vehicle – Successfully beat our clients’ CCP 998 settlement offers in an admitted liability case in which our client’s tractor trailer rear-ended plaintiff.  At trial, Sharon convinced the jury plaintiff was not as badly injured as claimed.  Because the jury award was less than settlement offers made, our clients were deemed the prevailing parties entitled to recover defense costs and expert fees, which exceeded the amount of the jury award.  Judgment was entered in our client’s favor on this admitted liability case!
  • Trucking - Successfully obtained a unanimous defense verdict for a trucking company on a negligence claim stemming from a motor vehicle accident in which a motorcyclist lost his leg.
  • Slip and Fall - Successfully obtained a defense jury verdict on a slip and fall personal injury claim.

Business Litigation

  • Contractual Indemnity – Successfully obtained a defense verdict when a local university cross-complained against our client for contractual indemnity in a personal injury lawsuit, alleging our client was partially responsible for plaintiff’s slip and fall accident.  Our client was awarded recovery of its attorneys’ fees and costs, pursuant to the contract.
  • Intellectual Property - Successfully obtained a punitive damages award for a client in a year-long, complicated trade secret misappropriation case.
  • Breach of Contract - Successfully defeated a $5 million breach of contract claim by a government agency against a local recycling company.
  • Fraudulent Inducement - Successfully obtained a defense verdict after a bench trial in a case involving claims of fraudulent inducement to enter into a contract.

Employment Litigation

  • Wrongful Termination - Successfully obtained a defense verdict in a case where plaintiff claimed her employment was terminated in retaliation for taking maternity leave. Although an emotional trial and the jury expressed sympathy for the plaintiff, Sharon persuaded the jury to follow the law and find that plaintiff was not a victim of unlawful discrimination.

Binding Arbitrations

  • Contractor Matter - Successfully obtained a defense award for a drainage contractor client.
  • Breach of Contract - Successfully awarded $5.2 million in damages for a breach of contract business dispute involving a national transportation company franchise.
  • Healthcare - Successfully prevailed in a contractual dispute between a local government healthcare district and private healthcare entity.
