Archer Norris Welcomes Appellate Partner Gary A. Watt in Walnut Creek

Press Release | 07.26.10

Walnut Creek, CALIF., July 26, 2010 Archer Norris welcomes Gary A. Watt as a partner in its Walnut Creek office. Formerly a partner with McNamara, Ney, Beatty, Slattery, Borges & Brothers, LLP, Watt enhances the firm’s Appellate practice. In addition, he will join Appellate practice leader W. Ric Blumhardt in maintaining the California Appellate Law Blog.

"Not only is Gary a highly talented appellate attorney, he is also extremely well rounded as an Adjunct Professor at Hastings College of the Law, director of the Hastings Appellate Project and an avid writer of legal articles and commentary,” remarked Managing Partner Gene Blackard. “Gary’s addition to the firm exemplifies our focus on clients as Gary’s proficiency in appellate and risk management issues translates to unique insights about complex cases.”

“I look forward to integrating my practice with Archer Norris’s already established framework for providing excellent client-focused work product, while at the same time growing the Appellate practice,” explained Watt.

Watt handles writs and appeals in all California appellate courts, including the Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He deals primarily with writs and appeals to contest the outcome of cases in the lower courts and advises Archer Norris trial attorneys on issues that might trigger an appeal in a case they are handling. His practice also includes risk management such as interpreting contracts, indemnity provisions and more. Watt is an Adjunct Professor of appellate advocacy at Hastings College of the Law and is Director of the Hastings Appellate Project, a program where Hastings students handle real appeals in the Ninth Circuit. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from California State University, Hayward.
