A skilled and dedicated attorney, Anthony Phillips is a senior associate in our San Francisco office. He concentrates his practice on business disputes. Tony is also a founding member of the Archer Norris Cannabis Practice, which advises and represents businesses in the new and rapidly-changing legal environment surrounding medical and recreational cannabis in California. 

Focused on Litigation

A member of the Archer Norris litigation team, Tony focuses on complex and commercial litigation. He has litigated breach of contract, fraud, unfair business practices and corporate governance cases from inception to resolution in state and federal court.   

Before Archer Norris

Prior to joining Archer Norris, Anthony was an associate at Berman DeValerio, where he practiced class action litigation in the antitrust and securities fields.  Before law school, he worked as Director of Product Management for a Bay Area software company that provided transportation and shipping solutions to Fortune 500 manufacturers.

Anthony Phillips’ representative matters include: 

  • Mortgage-Backed Securities – Obtained a $340+ million settlement after mediation in a federal securities class action alleging misrepresentations about mortgage quality and originations in offering documents filed with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). This is the third-largest settlement of its kind. 
  • “In-App” Purchases – Successfully represented consumers in a case of unauthorized “in app” sales to children through Apple’s App Store.
  • Dairy Farmers –Represented dairy farmers alleging manipulation of federal milk pricing programs by an agricultural cooperative.
  • Breach of Contract - Represented Healthcare District through four week bench trial in complex breach of contract dispute with its information technology provider
  • Real Estate Partnership - Represented partners in real estate partnership dispute through trial.
  • Sale of a gas station  - Obtained summary judgment in real estate dispute over sale of a gas station.  Resolved case through successful mediation.
  • Franchise Disputes - Represented franchisor of gas stations and convenience stores in real estate and franchise disputes with franchisees and third parties.
  • Lease negotiations - Represented school district in lease negotiations respecting its property holdings in San Francisco.
  • Securities/Corporate Governance - Represented institutional investors in securities class action litigation and corporate governance cases.
  • Antitrust - Represented class members in antitrust and consumer protection class action litigation.
