Raising the Bar.  Archer Norris raises $14K for the Food Bank

Archer Norris raised more than $14K in this year's annual Food from the Bar fundraiser benefiting the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.  The highlight was our Walk-A-Thon.  More than 50 Archer Norris employees and their friends braved record heat to walk a few miles for those less fortunate. This effort alone contributed $4K toward feeding 82,000 people who might otherwise go hungry each month.

Topping last year's total, 50 law firms, courts and legal departments donated more than $97,000 and collected almost 5,000 pounds of food. Archer Norris collected more than any other participants.  Our contributions go a long way - the Food Bank uses each dollar contributed to buy $5 worth of food.

Since its inception, the Contra Costa Bar Association's Food from the Bar event has raised $668,000 and over 100,000 pounds of food, making the CCBA one of the Food Bank's largest local supporters.  Archer Norris partner Ed Shaffer, who chairs the Bar Association's Food from the Bar Committee, observed, "This makes the Bar Association one of the Food Bank's largest contributors - at a time when it is needed more than ever as more people seek help and other sources of aid dry up.  This effort helps feed thousands of Contra Costa County residents in need."

The 16th annual Food from the Bar, kicked off with the 13th Res Ipsa Jokuitur comedy night.  In friendly competition, law firms and legal organizations vied with one another to raise donations and have fun. In addition to the Walk-A-Thon, this year's creative fundraising efforts included a woman who shaved her head in return for donations, a fantasy baseball game, a Ping-Pong tournament and a fine wine auction.  Participants also solicited donations from vendors, local restaurants and businesses who generously gave goods and services, as well as cash, for auctions and raffles.

Archer Norris attorneys and professionals are seen and heard beyond the courtroom and boardroom, making a difference wherever they go.
