The Gift of Giving
For many of us, the holidays are a time to help those in need. This year Archer Norris lawyers and staff made a special effort to spread some holiday cheer.
In Northern California, the firm continued its tradition of sponsoring the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in their annual Toys for Tots holiday toy collection. Our three overflowing barrels of new, unwrapped toys were picked up by a local Marine Corps representative in plenty of time for the holidays. This program sends a message of hope as it helps children experience the joy of Christmas.
Our Southern California offices once again participated in the Angel Scroll Program, contributing gifts to children cared for by the David & Margaret Foster Family Agency. The agency advocates for children of all ages who are in need of care, support and guidance. They find facilities and programs designed to address emotional, behavioral and educational needs, including a wide range of services for at-risk youth and families.
Our special program this year supported an Eagle Scout community project by sponsoring eight families through Shelter, Inc., a local non-profit agency assisting families in preventing homelessness by providing transitional housing. Rand Chritton, Glenn Mau, Danielle Arteaga, and Dana Moxley, along with family members, delivered the gifts, and it was obvious that their gesture was greatly appreciated.
We were as overwhelmed as the children as they received filled stockings and each opened one present. A determined two-year old boy refused to let go of his plastic candy cane filled with M&Ms. Nearby, an excited five-year old exulted to her mother over her new Dora the Explorer doll. And for another 12-year old girl, her "practical gift” – a bright purple fleece jacket that was new, and not someone else's – was the best thing that could have happened for her. Archer Norris also made a contribution to Shelter Inc. from our charitable fund.
For all of us, the ability to help those less fortunate, and to make a difference in others’ lives, is the best holiday gift we could receive. Each of us here at Archer Norris is proud of what we have done this year for Toys for Tots (USMC Reserve), the Angel Scroll Program (David & Margaret Foster Family Agency), and Shelter, Inc.
